Mind Your Sugar

When you stop to look at what you are consuming... you realize the things that is over done ! Sugar in the "American" Diet is out of control. According to the AHA ( American Heart Association) the daily recommended amount of sugar for women is 25 Grams a day, and for men its 35 grams.
The American diet has come accustomed to putting HFC's and or Sugar in everything we eat ! Just so that it tastes better and so that we buy, BUY, Buy !
I went from drinking HFC laden sodas to cane sugar sodas thinking it would be healthier. Oh boy was I wrong. Although HFC is Genetically modified, Sugar is just as bad on our health !! It is just as likely to cause heart attacks as HFC (High Fructose Corn Syrup) ! Aint that crazy??!! and one of the cane sodas I used to drink had about 35- 40 grams of sugar, I used to drink over 3 cans a day ! Holy canoli !! Talk about sugar overload !! and that doesn't even include, the sugary additions to my cooking !

So what to do?

Well, lower your sugar intake!! Follow the AHA guideline for sugar intake. Be sure to read labels !! I know that this may be challenging, because our society is programmed to not care what is going into our bodies ! But if you want change, this small task must be done !!  Stay away from HFC's !! And if you are a fizzy fanatic like me make your own sodas that are not sweetened with sugars ! Here's how:

Fruit Flavored Soda (no Sugar)

Ingredients:

Sparkling water
Frozen fruits ( Berries, Pineapples are best !)
Juice of Citrus ( Lemon, Lime, and or Oranges)

Directions:

Place citrus juice ( add more or less depending on your tastes buds ! ) in a cup. Add a handful of frozen fruits, then carefully add sparkling water to the cup. Let sit for a few minutes so the juices from the fruits are extracted.  The longer it sits the more flavorful it gets !
