If you ever visit Hawaii, you will quickly find that this hearty meal is served as Hawaii’s staple! Rice topped with a hamburger patty, an over easy egg, drenched with brown gravy, this dish will surely give you a kanak attack when pau eating !
Ingredients
2 cups cooked rice
4 Large eggs
Beef Patties
1 Pound Ground Beef
½ teaspoon Beef base
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp fresh cracked pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
3 TB bread crumbs
1 large egg
Gravy
Pan drippings
1 ½ Teaspoon Beef Base
1 Tablespoon Bacon Fat (optional)
1 Cup White Chinese cooking wine
1 cup water
3- 4 Tablespoon Flour
Salt to taste
Directions….
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients for the beef patty. Time to get dirty!! Use your hands to mix all ingredients until completely combined. Shape into 4 large balls, place on hot cast iron skillet, press down into 4 large patties. Cook on each side for 3-4 mins until each side has a nice crust and patties are cooked to your likeness (medium, med rare, well done etc.), place patties on a plate to let rest.
Meanwhile start cooking the four eggs, on medium heat on a cast iron skillet until over easy.
For the gravy, on medium low heat, place Chinese white cooking wine into skillet that burgers was cooked in. Cook for 2 mins, stirring with a whisk to lift stuck on burger crust, then add beef base, mix well. Add flour stirring frequently until well combined. Then add cold water stir frequently until all ingredients are smooth. Cook for 3 mins until gravy has thickened.
Now time to plate, in a bowl or on a plate, whatever tickles your fancy…. Layer some gravy on bottom, then rice, then Hamburger patty, then over easy egg. Top with gravy ! Enjoy with a little ketchup or soy sauce !! Then Kanak attack !! lol
